WashU is thrilled to announce WashU Serves. This coordinated, accessible, and visible platform helps WashU students, faculty, and staff engage in volunteer opportunities that advance the well-being of the St. Louis region. WashU Serves will align existing service initiatives and develop new touch points for campus participation in regional volunteer efforts through partnerships with the United Way and local nonprofit organizations.
The United Way Volunteer Portal includes general opportunities, student-focused opportunities, and “skilled volunteer” opportunities for WashU stakeholders to serve the community. The skilled volunteer opportunities allow individuals to search by work area (e.g., University Facilities, WashU IT, Marketing and Communications) and expertise (e.g., law, medicine, etc.).
Individuals and campus teams can search, register, and track volunteer opportunities year-round. There are options to filter opportunities by cause, geography, skills, or team participation. There is also an integrated dashboard for WashU to track engagement and volunteer hours.
SERVICE SATURDAYS
Service Saturdays is a new series from WashU that offers monthly volunteer events open to all WashU affiliates. The program’s focus in on group-based, high-impact service projects addressing local needs. Opportunities are curated through the United Way and local nonprofit partners. Service Saturdays includes centralized registration, communications, and photo-sharing.
The “In St. Louis, For St. Louis” Initiative team hosted several volunteer events on select Saturdays throughout June 2025, and will continue to host events monthly moving forward. These gatherings will provide meaningful ways for the WashU community to contribute to the community outside work hours. You can sign up for individual events here:
